1968: The Year that Rocked the World

11/8, 10:30 a.m. SOLD OUT. In this program for ages 55+, exhibit curator Brian Horrigan shares stories and insights on the development and creation of  the 1968 Project. In addition, the MHS Teen Advisory Council performs a reader’s theatre presentation of “1968: Teen to Teen.” The short performance was created by playwright Cory Hinkle based on oral histories from the generation who came of age during that chaotic, incredible year.

12/6, 7 p.m. Free. In the summer of 1968, 200 American Indian people turned out for a community meeting in Minneapolis. That meeting was the beginning of AIM - the American Indian Movement - a revolutionary organization that inspired millions of Native people to reclaim their rights, power and pride. With historian Julie Davis of St. John’s University.

Hot Wax: A Musical History of 1968

11/13, 1-4 p.m. Included with museum admission. Join event host, 89.3 The Current’s Bill DeVille, for live interviews with veteran rock critic Jon Bream, Badfinger’s Joey Molland, and Mint Condition’s Stokley Williams on the impact and legacy of the era, and kick back in our DJ'ed music lounges. Tour the exhibit to a musical backdrop provided by First Communion Afterparty, make a record-inspired musical keepsake, and pick up some vinyl or clothing to take home from our vintage boutiques.

Something Groovy! Family Workshops

11/6, 12/4 & 1/8, 1-4 p.m. The 1968 exhibit will trigger groovy memories of the epic 1960s. Create some fun and freaky mind-expanding family art projects with flower power flare - choose from tye dye, macrame bracelets and peace plaques. You can register in advance to reserve your place or just drop in (workshops run while supplies last)!
