“The American Voice of the Soviet Jews”

Tuesday, June 8, 2010 - 7:00pm

Discover the extraordinary story of Soviet Jews who became part of Minnesota’s Greatest Generation at the exclusive screening of "The American Voice of the Soviet Jews," by Twin Cities filmmaker, Igor Dadashev.

The film explores the experience of the Soviet Union’s Greatest Generation- a generation that defeated fascism in Germany only to return home to face Stalinist purges and authoritarian rule. Jews, in particular, experienced significant discrimination after the war, and most were unable to leave for decades. Some managed to escape, and settle in Minnesota where they could finally enjoy the long-delayed freedoms promised by World War II. The director and two survivors who appear in the film will be present. This event is co-sponsored by the Jewish Historical Society of the Upper Midwest.
