Preserving Summer’s Bounty

Sunday, August 8, 2010 - 3:00pm - 5:00pm

$20 ($15 MHS members).
Held at Fabulous Catering, 2900 13th Ave S., Minneapolis

Purchase tickets at 651-259-3015 or online

Seduced by ripe produce at markets, farm shares, and our gardens, many of us find our kitchens overrun with gluts of tomatoes, berries, and more by August.  Join us to learn an array of traditional techniques that preserve fruit and vegetables to last through fall and winter, including pickling, drying and preserving. You'll also pick up a few innovative recipes that highlight preserved foodstuffs, and enjoy some samples along the way.

Dorothy Stainbrook of Heath Glen Organic Farm will prepare homemade jams; Nick Schneider of Tavola Fresca will demonstrate pickling and drying recipes; and Aleah Vinick will speak about historic canning and preservation movements during the Great Depression and WWII.

Presented in partnership with Gastro Non Grata and Fabulous Catering.
