Discover the Real George Washington: New Views from Mount Vernon

On display Feb. 22 - May 29, 2011

Learn about George Washington as a young surveyor, dauntless warrior, entrepreneur and presidential first. This new, traveling exhibit from Mount Vernon features forensic models of Washington at various ages; short films by the History Channel and computer interactives; portraits and decorative arts; period weapons; and personal artifacts, including the only surviving full set of Washington's dentures. Exhibit overview.

The exhibit also features three forensically reconstructed, wax figures of George Washington at three stages in his life, ages 19, 45 and 57. Find out how these came to life.

Exhibition made possible by the generous support of The Donald W. Reynolds Foundation.

Support provided by Marney and Conley Brooks Fund for the Minnesota History Center, Kenneth and Betty Jayne Dahlberg, The Scrooby Foundation, George W. Wells Jr. and Mary Cobb Wells Exhibition Fund and The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in the State of Minnesota.
