MacMillan Field Trip Grants

The Minnesota Historical Society now has a program to provide students in Greater Minnesota the opportunity to experience hands-on history field trips to Twin Cities historic sites and museums in the 2012–13 school year.

These scholarships gives students living in greater Minnesota access to the Society’s sites in the seven county metropolitan area. Through this endowment, the Society subsidizes student transportation costs for schools located 50 miles or more from the History Center. For schools located more than 150 miles from the History Center, the Society will provide a minimal lodging/meal subsidy on a per student basis to be used at the school’s discretion.

Funding provided by the Elizabeth and Whitney MacMillan Education Fund.

School Eligibility

• Any school located 50 miles or more from the History Center is eligible for a transportation subsidy.
• Any school located more than 150 miles from the History Center is eligible for a transportation subsidy and a minimal lodging/meal subsidy.
• Schools may use the funds to offset transportation costs for field trips to any of these facilities: Minnesota History Center, Mill City Museum, James J. Hill House, Historic Fort Snelling/Sibley House, Alexander Ramsey House, and Oliver H. Kelley Farm.
• Schools may only receive one award per school year.
• Schools may apply annually for this award; having received an award in a previous year does not make a school ineligible.
• Schools in Zone 3 may select a meal subsidy or a meal/lodging subsidy if the grant is awarded and both subsidies are still available. A copy of lodging receipt will need to be provided before the lodging subsidy payment is issued.
• Schools do not need to meet any Title I, Federal Free and Reduced Lunch, or other economic need requirements.
