Mazinaakizige - American Indian Teen Photography Program

This 12 week long arts-based internship with the Minnesota Historical Society pairs teens with artist mentors as they investigate American Indian representations - historic and contemporary - and create their own gallery show.

Final Exhibit: Power(full) - On view Dec. 9, 2016 to Jan. 27, 2017 at Two Rivers Gallery, 1530 E Franklin Ave, Minneapolis

Who: Six American Indian High School Students from the metro area.

Where: Minnesota History Center, 345 Kellogg Blvd. W., Saint Paul, plus field trips to other locations.

Why: Students learn digital photography, get behind-the-scenes access to artwork & objects, and build their resume. At the end of 12 weeks, students will create a body of work and exhibit their photography in a gallery show at Two Rivers Gallery in Minneapolis. The six young artists focused this exhibition around the theme “Power(full),” to develop their photography skills in a guided, supportive, and culturally sensitive environment. The artists will be showing a selection of photographs that empowers their indigenous identity.
